This makes a player’s shot extremely difficult to block due to a higher release.  It also allows players to be more explosive with a quicker release off the dribble and the catch.  While the mid-range is no longer an emphasis at the professional level due to analytics (they typically shoot 3’s or layups), it is a lost art at the high school and college levels.
