Lesson 2: The Drills. – Part 1

*Make sure you watch both videos in the download section.* *Make sure you check and use the PDF download of the CTG Shooting Academy Phase 1-4 program. If you follow that plan and don’t cheat yourself, the sky is truly the limit.* These drills will maximize your time by improving your shot as efficiently as possible. Again, changing a shot is a true PROCESS. You must trust the process and not expect results immediately. I would rather have you miss every shot with great form than make some shots with terrible form. Students sometimes forget whom they’re trying to improve. When I work out, I want to make future Jack better, not present Jack. This mindset helps me switch my focus to what’s going to help me MOST in the long haul. Elite shooters must adopt this mindset!

Form Shooting:

  • Line of Power Form Shooting
  • Piece With Nozzle Floor Shooting
  • Partner HOLD Shooting Pole Drill
  • Chair Shooting (Jump Shooters)
  • Machine Gun Form (2 Balls)

Stationary Shots:

  • Trampoline Shooting
    • Right + Left Hop STRAIGHT On
    • Hear “one sound” NOT “two sounds”
  • 1-2 Step
    • Left Right
    • Right Left
  • Gather Feet
    • Wide to thin
    • Right foot gather
    • Left foot gather
    • Used during a swing on offense
  • Front Pivots
    • Rotate as QUICKLY as possible
    • Left foot front pivot
    • Right foot front pivot
  • Reverse Pivots
    • Rotate as QUICKLY as possible
    • Left foot reverse pivot
    • Right foot reverse pivot
  • Jab Shots
    • Step North-South feet RIGHT at defender
    • VIOLENT jabs along with moving your eyes
  • Harden Side Step
    • High knee driving as much force as you can into the ground resulting in the most space created for your shot
    • Right footstep
    • Left footstep
  • Jump Rope Hop
    • Right + Left Shoulder 
    • This forces you to have quick knees
    • Rotate your hips as quickly as possible to challenge your balance

On the Move Shots:

  • Trampoline Right + Left Shoulder
    • Inside Foot!

Dribble Pull Up Shots:

  • Burst Pull up
    • Sweep shoelaces ALWAYS
    • Inside Foot
    • Make the shape of a J
    • Legs LOADED on a shot fake
  • Shield Pull Up
    • Use foot to protect the ball against a defender
    • Inside foot
    • Make the shape of a J
    • Do NOT make the shape of a C
    • Legs LOADED on a shot fake
  • Space Maker Series
    • Burst Pull Up
    • Jab Back
    • Snap Back
    • Pull Back Behind
    • Pull Back Front
    • Spin
    • Misdirection Between
    • Jordan Turnaround
    • Jordan Shimmy Turnaround
  • Dribble Chamber
    • 4 chairs
    • Change of direction at each chair
      • Cross
      • Between
      • Behind
    • Use your eyes
    • Inside foot

3 Point Shooting:

  • Transition Dribble 1-2 Step
    • Right-hand dribble = left right
    • Left-hand dribble = right left
  • Transition Off Catch
    • 1-2 or hop
      • Your preference!
  • JJ Reddick Spin Outs
    • BIG spinouts give you room to SPRINT into your shot!
  • 30 ‘N 3 Spot Shooting
    • Have to make 30 3’s without missing 3 in a row throughout entire shooting period
    • Great way to build the “clutch gene” into your workouts. Being able to make three in a row puts pressure on the shooter!

Individual Drills:

  • Spin Out Sprints
    • Game Speed ALWAYS
  • Toss Behind Back and React
    • Immediately bring to pocket and shoot
  • Attack Chair Change of Direction
    • North south (straight) ALWAYS
    • “Burst” the defenders “bubble,” should be as tight as you possibly can to the chair!
    • Crossover
    • Between
    • Behind
    • Combo Moves
    • Use your “eyes” to sell moves!

Partner Drills:

  • Back Pedal Hops
    • Creates much more imbalance making it harder to shoot
  • No look shoulder turn
    • Forces you to locate and turn your hips in the air QUICKLY

3 Player Drills:

  • 2 Balls Rapid Fire Shooting
    • Pass and Replace
    • TALK, this builds chemistry!

Team Drills:

  • Swing, Pass, and Replace 1 Dribble Pull Ups
    • Make sure you sweep the shoelaces
    • ALWAYS use inside foot
    • First step MUST be north south (straight)
  • Away Screen Shots Continuous
    • “Walk in the Park”
    • Change speeds as fast as you can
    • Come off the screen as tightly as possible, SPRINT.
    • Passers must throw “strikes,” right into the shooter’s shooting pocket. Do NOT throw rainbows! TOO SLOW!
